Authors Note: I think the story Thank you ma'am would end like this because I think you can change someone, and they can stay changed. Also people run into each other on accident sometimes, and the people they run into, some of them could be people you met only once.
She led him down the hall to the front door
and opened it. "Goodnight!" Behave yourself, boy!" she said,
looking out into the street.
The boy wanted to say something else other that "Thank you,
ma’am" to Mrs. Luella Bates Washington Jones, but he couldn’t do so as he
turned at the barren stoop and looked back at the large woman in the door. He
barely managed to say "Thank you" before she shut the door.
5 years later, Roger encountered Mrs. Luella Bates Washington
Jones on the street. He was well fed, has nice clean clothes on, and had
excellent manners. Rodger ran into Mrs. Luella Bates Washington Jones when he
was walking to the Grocery Store, and was thinking about inviting over Mrs. Luella
Bates Washington Jones to his house, and then realized his foster parents
didn’t want him to have friends over. He came up to Mrs. Luella Bates
Washington Jones and said “Hello Mrs. Jones”
She turned around and asked in a loud voice “Who are you? Why are
you bothering me?”
“Don’t you remember me? Its Rodger.” Rodger Answered.
“Rodger you’ve grown” She said.
“Want some dinner at the Diner?” Rodger Asked.
“No thank you. I already ate my supper tonight.”
“Well want to take a walk. I’ll take you back to your home.”
“Ok.”
As they walked home Mrs. Luella Bates Washington Jones asked some
questions to Rodger.
“Rodger, what has happened since the last time I saw you.” Mrs.
Luella Bates Washington Jones.
“I have been really good in the five years you haven’t seen me.
Well I’ve graduated high school, and currently going to college. I’m going to
UCLA. Thank you maim for helping me on the right path, to be good to others,
and I have foster parents, gone to college just because of you, I also got a
job. I’m working at McDonalds, and I get a good pay.”
As they reached Mrs. Jones front door she said “Well good for you
Rodger, I’ve just gotten Cancer and I’m going to survive it. Well, I have to go
Rodger. Thank you for your company.”
Just then Mrs. Luella Bates Washington Jones shut the door and gnever
said goodbye to Rodger, but after that night, on the streets, Rodger never saw
Mrs. Luella Bates Washington Jones ever again. Not in 5 years, not never again.
